FAQ
-
Liquid cultures are sterile nutrient solutions containing live mushroom mycelium. These are used to inoculate sterilized grain or substrate, providing a fast and reliable method for growing gourmet mushrooms.
-
For best results, store your liquid culture in a refrigerated environment between 35–45°F (1.5–7°C). This will help preserve its viability for 6 months to a year or longer, especially when kept upright, away from light, and without excessive agitation.
If refrigeration is not immediately available, cultures may be kept in a cool, dark place at room temperature for up to one week. However, for optimal performance, we strongly recommend either using the culture within that week or transferring it to refrigeration as soon as possible. Prolonged storage at room temperature may reduce mycelial vigor and increase the risk of contamination.
Always inspect your culture before use, and avoid freezing, as this can damage the living mycelium.
-
When refrigerated properly, cultures typically remain viable for 2 to 6 months. Always inspect before use.
-
Before use, shake the syringe gently to disperse the mycelium evenly. Wipe the injection port of your grain or substrate jar with an alcohol wipe, attach the sterile needle provided, and inject 1–3 mL per jar or bag. Always work in sterile conditions.
-
We recommend first inoculating sterilized grain spawn for optimal success. Direct-to-substrate inoculation may result in slower colonization or contamination.
